Where can I learn about basic finance concepts?
I have the book "Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives" by John C. Hull, and I have "Market Know How: Finance and Markets" by Francesca Taylor, but they both seem to assume some basic knowledge, and it’s hard to follow what they’re talking about. They throw around terms like options, securities, futures, bonds, equity, stocks, stock market, derivatives, etc., and I don’t know anything about any of these things.
I then went out and bought "Economics for Dummies" hoping that it would give me a basic understanding I would need in order to read my other two books, but it seems to be about a completely different set of concepts.
Can anyone suggest an introductory book that explains the basics?

How does the SEC detect insider trading?
I was wondering how the SEC detects insider trading. To be more specific, I was wondering how the SEC would find out WHO is insider trading. Do they just check to see who’s been able to get a consistent 500% return trading one stock, and then do a basic investigation, or do they look at every corporate executive each week and look at each one that’s been able to get amazing returns? I assume they can’t look at the 10s of millions of investors patterns without using a computer program? Who do the SEC zone in on? I’m assuming the best excuse for someone who gets caught making ALOT of money off of one/two stocks can say that they have only been able to make so much because they dedicate all there time to one stock. And what about the insider traders who give money to people not related to them to trade so that the SEC won’t get anywhere looking at his/her relatives? Is there some type of extremely efficient and complex system used by the SEC that catches 98 percent of the insider traders, or do most of the insider trader get away with it? Please answer!

How do I trade on the London Stock Exchange?
I recently started a Scottrade account and now I am wondering if there is a way for me to trade stocks from the LSE. I am of course at work when the NYSE is trading and I am thinking that I might be better off trading on the London market which will be open when I am home. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
